Detailed Review of MSI GS75 Stealth Laptop

Overview of MSI GS75 Stealth Laptop

The MSI GS75 laptop maintains the design style of its 15-inch predecessor from last year. While it may not be the flashiest laptop out there, it does have a unique look that sets it apart from others. The laptop keeps it simple with a sleek, all-black top panel featuring MSI’s dragon logo. There are no extra frills or lights, just clean lines and a touch of gold trimming on the hinges, touchpad outline, and ventilation system along the sides. The RGB keyboard also follows this minimalist aesthetic, with the default color being black. Overall, the MSI GS75 has a distinctive look that prioritizes simplicity and elegance.

Design and Display: What does MSI GS75 Stealth Laptop Look Like?

MSI continues to impress with the design of their latest laptop in the Stealth line. The GS75 has a sleek and elegant look, featuring a black and gold color scheme with no over-the-top racing stripes or aggressive angles. The dragon shield logo on the aluminum lid adds a touch of luxury without being too flashy. The gold trim around the lid and hinges ties the whole design together nicely.

The 17.3-inch display of MSI GS75 Stealth Laptop has thin bezels, and the gold-colored hinges add to the premium look of the laptop. The black aluminum deck with a border around the touchpad looks sophisticated, and the cutouts on the sides reveal some gold accents along the vents. The review unit we received had a customizable gold flashing keyboard, which was a nice touch.

The MSI GS75 Stealth Laptop is also well-equipped with ports for all your peripherals and additional storage needs. The left side of the laptop has an Ethernet jack, USB 3.1 (Type-A) port, microSD card slot, and two audio jacks. On the right side, you’ll find a USB Type-C port, a Thunderbolt 3 port, two more USB 3.1 ports, HDMI output, and a lock slot.

Performance and Specs: How Efficient Is Oppo A54 5G?

Like most gaming laptops, the MSI GS75 Stealth Laptop has multiple performance modes and fan profiles to choose from. We found that the top Turbo performance mode overclocks the GPU by 100 MHz compared to the default Sport mode, which resulted in the best performance. The auto mode also works great for gaming, and it significantly reduces fan noise during less demanding tasks like web browsing.

The MSI GS75 Stealth Laptop comes with Intel’s widely-used six-core Core i7-8750H processor, which we’ve tested many times before. If you’re interested in specific benchmarks, check out our original review of this mobile CPU. Compared to quad-core laptops, such as those using the Core i7-7700HQ, the GS75 delivers significant gains of 40% in x264 encoding and over 50% in 7-Zip, with a 10% improvement in single-threaded tasks. Upgrading to six cores is an excellent choice, especially for multi-threaded work, and it can improve performance in some games.

the GS75 offers great performance thanks to its Turbo mode and six-core processor. The auto fan mode is also a pleasant surprise, as it provides adequate cooling while reducing noise during low-demand tasks. If you’re in the market for a gaming laptop with excellent performance, the GS75 is definitely worth considering.

Keyboard of MSI GS75 Stealth Laptop

Overall, the keyboard provided a natural and satisfying typing experience thanks to its SteelSeries design. However, I did find the elongated touchpad to be a bit of a hindrance at times. Unlike traditional laptops where the touchpad is located under the spacebar, the touchpad on the GS75 Stealth is placed right in the middle of the deck. As a result, I found myself inadvertently clicking on the touchpad with my palm when typing.

If MSI wanted to keep the touchpad of MSI GS75 Stealth Laptop in the center, they could have done away with the number pad to ensure that the keyboard and touchpad were properly aligned. On the design front, I appreciated the smooth font used on the keyboard. Additionally, the backlighting on the keyboard can be customized through the SteelSeries Engine 3 app. While the app is comprehensive in its features, it can be overwhelming to navigate due to the numerous options scattered across the UI.

Overall, the MSI GS75 Stealth Laptop offers a solid keyboard and customizable backlighting options, but the placement of the touchpad may take some getting used to for users accustomed to traditional laptop layouts.

With its elegant and sophisticated design, powerful performance, and a 17-inch display that is bright and clear, this is an excellent choice for anyone searching for a slim and lightweight desktop replacement with an RTX 2080 Max-Q GPU.

For those who prioritize raw power, MSI’s GE75 Raider comes with a full-sized RTX 2080, but it’s not as portable or stylish as the GS75 Stealth. The Raider does have a smaller touchpad, which may not be ideal for some users, but it doesn’t interfere with typing.

Despite the touchpad issue and audio quality that may require headphones for a better experience, the GS75 Stealth is a fantastic performer and definitely a head-turner with its sleek and slim design. Overall, if you care about both gaming and appearances, the GS75 Stealth is the way to go.
