Vivo V27 Pro review

8.3Expert Score
Good

Vivo has recently released the Vivo V27 Pro, which is essentially a brand-new phone that has been built from scratch. This device is equipped with the powerful MediaTek Dimensity 8200 processor, which has previously been featured and well-received in the iQOO Neo 7. Additionally, the Vivo V27 Pro features a customized Sony IMX766V primary camera sensor that is optimized for improved nighttime photography. This is certainly exciting news for users who prioritize high-quality smartphone photography, particularly in low-light conditions.

Detailed Review of Vivo V27 Pro

1

Overview of Vivo V27 Pro

The Vivo V27 Pro is an affordable smartphone that offers impressive performance and exceptional photography capabilities. It is especially great for people who enjoy taking selfies. However, it is currently only available in India, which might make it a bit difficult for people outside India to get their hands on one. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly phone that delivers in terms of camera quality and overall performance, the Vivo V27 Pro is definitely worth considering.

Design of Vivo V27 Pro

The Vivo V27 Pro is a new smartphone that shares many similarities with its predecessor, the V25 Pro. Like the V25 Pro, the Vivo V27 Pro features a striking blue finish with an AG glass back that feels just as luxurious as its predecessor. It also has a similar look and feel to the iQOO 11. However, it is important to note that the phone can be slippery, so it’s recommended to use a case. Fortunately, a basic transparent TPU case is included in the box.

At 182g, the Vivo V27 Pro is a relatively lightweight phone that may appeal to those who prefer a smaller device. It has a slim profile of 164.174.87.36 mm, which is also relatively small compared to other phones in its price range. The phone’s right edge houses a USB-C port, volume rocker, and power button, but there is no 3.5mm headphone jack, which may disappoint some users who prefer wired headphones. Nonetheless, all the buttons are easily accessible, and the phone can be operated comfortably with one hand.

The device has a glass coating that covers the display and rear, with the rear being protected by ‘Fluorite AG’ glass. This gives the phone a sleek and premium look, but it may not be as durable as an aluminum frame phone when it comes to drops and impacts. The rear of the phone has an elegant-looking rectangular camera module that houses three cameras. The protrusion is minimal, which reduces wobbling when placed on its back.

The Vivo V27 Pro is available in two colors: Noble Black, which is a light pearlescent shade, and Magic Blue, the color featured in this review, which appears to be a navy-blue hue. Regardless of the color chosen, the phone boasts an attractive design that will appeal to many users.

Display of Vivo V27 Pro

The Vivo V27 Pro is a mid-range phone that boasts one of the prettiest displays in recent times. The 6.78-inch panel features a subtle 3D curve at the edges and a small cut-out for the front-facing camera at the top. The thin bezels around the screen further enhance its aesthetic appeal.

The display’s technical specifications are impressive as well, with an AMOLED panel offering a resolution of 2400×1080 (FHD+). This results in a vivid and smooth curved display that spans 6.78 inches diagonally. Despite its large size, the phone feels surprisingly easy to handle because of its tall and slim design.

With a refresh rate of 120Hz, the display is eager to take inputs, making it ideal for gaming or scrolling through social media. It’s also bright enough to be used outdoors, although Vivo hasn’t disclosed any information about its brightness figures. There’s no word either on whether the device is HDR or Dolby certified.

One downside to the Vivo V27 Pro display is that it’s accompanied by only one mono speaker. While the speaker is loud, it can easily be muffled while watching videos or playing games without a secondary speaker to enhance the audio experience. Overall, the Vivo V27 Pro display is a standout feature, making it an excellent choice for anyone looking for a phone with an impressive screen.

Battery and performance of Vivo V27 Pro

The Vivo V27 Pro is a smartphone that performed quite well in benchmark tests, according to our review. It scored 836,701 points on AnTuTu, which is slightly lower than the iQoo Neo 7 5G, a cheaper phone with a focus on performance. However, it outperformed the OnePlus 11R, which has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC and scored 775,602 points in our tests. The phone also underwent testing with Geekbench 6, scoring 998 and 2,198 points in the single-core and multi-core tests, respectively. Although it performed surprisingly well in the single-core test, the multi-core test was lower compared to its rivals.

In terms of battery life, the Vivo V27 Pro can last all day with medium to light usage, with an average screen-on time of about 6 hours and 30 minutes on days when used heavily for gaming or camera use. On days with lighter use, the phone lasted for about eight hours on a single charge. During our HD video battery loop test, the Vivo V27 Pro lasted for 18 hours before running out of battery. The phone takes approximately one hour to charge from zero to 100 per cent with the bundled charger and cable.

The Vivo V27 Pro is an affordable phone with an MSRP of around $459 that offers great value for money. It has premium features that make it easy to mistake for a top-tier flagship phone. However, there are some areas where its budget-friendly price point is noticeable, such as weaker auxiliary cameras, a mono speaker, and pre-installed bloatware. Nonetheless, bloatware is also present on the more expensive Vivo X90 Pro. The front-facing camera on the Vivo V27 Pro is one of the best you’ll find on any device, making it a great option if you take a lot of selfies. However, availability may be an issue, as the phone is only available in India at launch, and it’s uncertain if Vivo will release it elsewhere. A non-pro version of the Vivo V27 is expected to launch soon and will share many camera features with the V27 Pro. However, it has a weaker processor, so it may not be the best choice for gamers. If you’re interested in the cameras, it might be worth waiting to see if it launches in your region. Overall, the Vivo V27 Pro is an easy phone to recommend for its affordability, premium features, and excellent front-facing camera.
