Alienware AW3423DWF QD-OLED gaming monitor review

8Expert Score
Awesome

The Alienware AW3423DWF QD-OLED gaming monitor is thinner and lighter as compared to its predecessor. Even though it is a small update, console players particularly value the addition of HDMI 2.1 support. This monitor is still unbeatable for gaming.

Detailed Review of Alienware AW3423DWF QD-OLED gaming monitor review

Detailed overview of Alienware AW3423DWF QD-OLED gaming monitor

An updated version of the Alienware 34 Curved QD-OLED that was first introduced in 2022 is the new Alienware AW3423DWF QD-OLED gaming monitor. The way it made games feel more immersive made that original monitor one of my favorite products to review. I did not have many complaints, besides the high price and lack of HDMI 2.1 support. The only differences between this new model and the one introduced in April are its price, weight, and support for HDMI 2.1. These upgrades raise the bar on an awesome monitor. If you already own the previous model, it is not worthwhile to upgrade, but if you want one of the best gaming monitors and the best-curved monitors, you should add the new Alienware AW3423DWF QD-OLED in your life.

Design of Alienware AW3423DWF QD-OLED gaming monitor

The Alienware AW3423DWF is a dedicated gaming monitor. Its stylish 1800R curved display neatly encircles your vision field. The chassis is entirely black, save for a “34” and Alienware’s iconic alien logo on the back. In comparison to the previous design, this gives the monitor a slightly more menacing appearance. Even though you cannot see the lights when using the monitor, the Legend 2 AlienFX lighting on the back gives the device some flair. The AW3423DWF is a large and heavy item, measuring 16.36 / 20.69 (compressed/extended height) x 32.10 x 12.04 inches and weighing 21 pounds with the stand. The V-shaped legs of the stand also equip a lot of desk space. Having said that, this monitor is thinner and lighter than the previous design (without the stand). The new Alienware monitor is easier to mount to your wall using the VESA mounts on the back, even though it is only a pound lighter.

Display of Alienware AW3423DWF QD-OLED gaming monitor

The curved 3,440 x 1,440 Quantum Dot OLED display is still impressive, with a 21:9 aspect ratio, and sporting a 165Hz refresh rate. The amazing way that everything appears on this monitor continues to astound me. As before, there are six preset picture modes on this monitor that are tailored to various gaming genres. The AW3423DWF covered 127% of the wider DCI-P3 color gamut in Standard mode and 180% of the narrower sRGB color gamut. Its Delta-E value was 0.24. Depending on the picture mode and whether HDR is enabled, there are various brightness levels. The Alienware AW3423DWF had an average brightness of 236 nits in Standard mode. At 40%, HDR 400 had an average brightness of 366 nits, while HDR 1000 had an average brightness of 359 nits.

Interface of Alienware AW3423DWF QD-OLED Gaming Monitor

The AW3423DWF has a simple interface that is not too difficult to use. It has a black and grey background with white and blue lettering on top of it. The OSD joystick that is used to navigate menus is reasonably responsive. The menus in question offer options for configuring the AlienFX Lighting, adjusting brightness/contrast, and more along with the six game modes. If you do not want to spend time experimenting with options, there are several presets. However, you have the option to change the settings exactly as you like them.

Performance of Alienware AW3423DWF QD-OLED Gaming Monitor

Although clear, vivid images are important, you also require games to function as quickly and accurately as possible. Undoubtedly, the AW3423DWF’s performance is just as excellent as its striking appearance. Such excellent performance is made possible by the monitor’s 165Hz refresh rate, 0.1ms response time, and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. If your PC is unable to run games at high frame rates, you might not get the best results. The frame rates and refresh rate were consistently synchronized. Fast-paced first-person shooter Doom Eternal is ideal for a display like the AW3423DWF.

Some of the problems I had with the first model are resolved by the Alienware AW3423DWF QD-OLED. Both the lower price and the availability of HDMI 2.1 support are excellent. The improvements genuinely make the product stronger, even if they only constitute a minor overall upgrade.
