Asus Zenfone 9 Review

6.7Expert Score
Fails to impress

The Asus Zenfone 9 has a lot of positive aspects, but it ultimately falls short. The 3.5mm headphone jack and small, simple design make it simple to use, but the camera quality is inconsistent, the screen is too small to justify the powerful processor, and the price is simply too high for what you get.

Detailed Review of Asus Zenfone 9

Detailed overview of Asus Zenfone 9

After testing the Asus Zenfone 9 for a week, it has been understood that our difficulties in “getting” the phone were caused by problems with its own identity. The Zenfone 9 is an affordable phone that is trying to pass for a high-end device. The photography experience is quite limited. The top-tier Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip from Asus is great for activities like gaming or video editing. The Zenfone’s small size, which makes it easy to use one-handed and truly pocket-sized, is one of its key features. The chip simply makes no sense, and a mid-range processor would have served the phone better. The display, front camera, and battery life are all fine.

Display of Asus Zenfone 9

The Asus Zenfone 9 is a compact phone. Its display measures 5.9 inches, making it one of the few Android devices released in 2022 with a screen smaller than 6 inches. It has 1100 nits of maximum brightness, FHD+ display, and a 120 Hz refresh rate, which is about what you would expect for the price, although there are a few phones with a higher resolution. With a resolution that matches the output of the majority of apps and a refresh rate that makes motion look smooth, it does what you need it to, but it does not do anything better than any other phone.

Design of Asus Zenfone 9

If the Asus Zenfone 9 was not so small, it would resemble a cookie-cutter “chocolate-bar” style smartphone. It is smaller than most other Android phones available in the market. In comparison to some other mega-mobiles you can buy for the same price, this makes it very comfortable to use with one hand. Wired audio enthusiasts would be pleased that the phone has both a USB-C port and a 3.5mm headphone jack. A side-mounted fingerprint scanner and volume rocker are located on the right edge of the device. The fingerprint scanner is mounted on the side and works 9 out of 10 times, which is better than some phones.

4

Cameras of Asus Zenfone 9

The Asus Zenfone 9 simply cannot compete with many similarly priced phones due to its two rear cameras. It seems the AI processing can become confused as some images appeared flat while others appeared oversaturated and too vibrant. The other camera has a 12MP ultra-wide camera with a 113-degree field of view. This performs reasonably well, with little (though occasionally noticeable) edge distortion, compared to most shorter-focal-length lenses. This phone does not consist of a zoom camera. Therefore, if you want to get closer to a subject, you must use cropping or digital zoom.

5

Battery Life of Asus Zenfone 9

For most phones, the Zenfone’s 4,300mAh battery would seem to be on the smaller side. The battery life of the Asus is average. The phone typically lasted a full day of use and only struggled during periods of heavy use; however, it could not be relied upon to last into a second day. This phone does not require overnight charging. To prevent excessive overcharging, Asus offers a few battery health features, one of which allows you to specify the time by which the phone should be fully charged every morning. By using methods like these, you can extend the time before your phone’s battery health declines.

The Asus Zenfone 9 promises seamless and quick functioning.  All credit goes to its powerful chipset from the Qualcomm Snapdragon family supported by an Octa-core CPU and an 8GB RAM. A Li-Polymer battery along with fast charging features is the cherry on top.
